How it started:

Growing up in a low-tech era and becoming a mum in a high-tech era I found myself reminiscing of times when life allowed you to have slow mundane moments. Airport layovers were boring, but they meant finding things to do and often led to unexpected encounters with people. Time wasting meant mindless crafting and creative thinking. Imaginative play wasn’t confined to children and scrolling meant you had written your friend a letter and decided to roll it into a scroll and tie with string.

latch and lull studio was inspired by watching my kids play dinosaur café. They thought of an idea, ran with it and invited their friends over to join. Anyone who couldn’t make it, we packed the boot and made it a mobile café. They did this because it was fun, they didn’t fuss over the details, and they connected our community by involving their friends. After trying to figure out how I too could return to my creative passions and connect better with friends – I realised what I was searching for. I decided to host my own art exhibition in my home studio. My Friends came. It was themed. Yes, we wore costumes to match. It connected us in new ways and filled our heart with a night I’ll never forget.

Life doesn’t have to be so organised and serious. Embrace lulls, live right where your feet are and connect through experience.
